Natty Wylah/Petit Oiseau @ Leighton House
6th December 2022
6:30 - 9:00pm
Natty Wylah is an artist who leans more firmly on the left side of the brain. Intuition over logic. Feeling and expression over technicality. Drawn toward magic – not the Disney glitter, more the slimy, Pan’s-Labyrinth-type – the psychedelic is something that has always lined the sides of his sound. With it’s roots in Hip-Hop, the sound now ventures; manifesting in a 4-piece live band set-up – soft and breathy meets punk-jagged, David Lynch meets Rage Against the Machine.
As well as the band set up, another more intimate sonic branch of Wylah's grows electronically through self production with a feeling kindred to Arthur Russel’s innocence & Lee Perry’s experimental spirit. Teasingly most of which is yet to be released but is alluded to in Natty’s first self produced release earlier this year aloevera found on his Bandcamp.
Petit Oiseau is the collaborative work of Jatinder Singh Durhailay and Suren Seneviratne. It is a new musical endeavour, marrying classical Indian instrumentation such as the Dilruba played by Durhailay, unusually combined with Seneviratne’s digital synthesiser murmurings.
